Matthew 21:23-27; Mark 11:27-33; Luke 20:1-8
In Matthew 21 and Mark 11, Jesus encounters a fruitless fig tree and pronounces a curse on it. From this seemingly strange event, we see Jesus teaching several lessons to the Disciples with Him and us as well.
As Jesus is in Bethany on the day before the Triumphal Entry, Mary anoints Him with an expensive oil, creating a situation where we can learn several important lessons about humility and devotion to Christ.
In Luke 19:1-27, as Jesus passes through Jericho, He gives us a lesson in humility by choosing to stay at the house of Zacchaeus. While there He takes the opportunity to share a teaching on the importance of being a faithful servant to The Lord.
Jesus has an encounter with a blind man on the road near Jericho. However, there is much more than we can learn from this event than simply Jesus’ power to heal.
Mark 10:35-45 & Matthew 20:20-28
Disciples James and John make an audacious request of Jesus, and He seizes on the moment to teach His disciples about the importance of humility and having an attitude of servanthood.
