Liberty Hill celebrates the birth of Christ with a service focusing on the Nativity. Scripture readings and hymns focus on the events and people surrounding the first Christmas.
In the story of Christmas we see various ways in which Christ’s love is on display for all to see so that we can be confident in His love no matter what comes our way in this life.
On December 18th, 2019, we took a look at the origins of Christmas as an official holiday and some popular practices associated with it, addressing questions such as: Is Christmas a copy of or Christianized version of a pagan holiday? Is the use of decorated trees rooted in idolatry? Where did the idea of Santa come from? Why is Christmas celebrated on December 25th?
In Luke 2:25-35 we see a picture of a man, Simeon, to who celebrated the coming of Christ for the peace He brought him. We likewise celebrate Christ because of the peace He brings to our lives as well.
In the account of the Magi in Matthew 2:1-12 we see a story of hope fulfilled. In the birth of Jesus, we find reason why we likewise can trust in the promises of God and have hope that they will be fulfilled.
We start out the Advent season with a look at the angels’ appearance to the shepherds and how the birth of Jesus is an occasion for joy to all people.
